The Fastest Mobile Data in the Philippines in First Half of 2018

As we wait for the next telco to arrive, Speedtest.net has recently awarded their Fastest Mobile Award for Q1 to Q2 2018 to Smart Communications Inc. for mobile network speed. Smart has won this award by achieving a Speed Score™ of 14.98, with average speeds of 17.25 Mbps for download and 7.65 Mbps for upload. See below for comparison with Globe Telecoms.

Speedtest Market Statistics Q1-Q2 2018
Carrier/Network
Test Count
Speed Score
Average Download
Average Upload
Average Latency
Smart 985,615 14.98 17.25 Mbps 7.65 Mbps 60 ms
Globe 1,123,608 9.93 11.11 Mbps 5.12 Mbps 67 ms

The Speed Score™ works by comparing user-initiated speed tests in iOS and Android mobile apps for Major Carriers only during the award period. The fastest carrier is then determined by incorporating the measure of download and upload speeds to rank the network speed performance: 90% for download, and 10% for upload. More emphasis is placed on the download and median speeds as those represent what most network providers' customers will experience on a regular basis.

Speedtest.net is a web service that provides free analysis of Internet access performance metrics, such as connection data rate and latency. It was founded by Ookla in 2006, and is based in Seattle, Washington
